Here’s what we know so far: “Girls” star Adam Driver will be playing the villain in “Star Wars: Episode 7,” while Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are widely expected to return in one way or another. Any other details are on lock down for the moment, but a few more names have dripped out as possibilities for what Variety is calling “the right Jedi to challenge Driver and the evil empire.”
According to the trade John Boyega (“Attack The Block“), Ed Speelers (aka Jimmy Kent from “Downton Abbey“), theatre dudes Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher, and the already-rumored “Breaking Bad” and “Friday Night Lights” star Jesse Plemons are in the mix to join the movie in an unspecified lead role. So what makes this round up of names different? Apparently, they “have moved to the top of the list in recent weeks” though the net is still wide open, with J.J. Abrams apparently looking for racially diverse cast.
Other than that, all one can do is fantasize about which one of these dudes looks better with a lightsaber. “Star Wars: Episode 7” arrives on December 18, 2015.
right lets get this straight, there looking for someone thats young, a dickhead in past movies and a non screen personallity , well im sorry but attack the block was boring and crap, with no one shining at least the muggers( thats always fun, being mugged) but hey they played a good part,( like shite) thats because every other film thev'e been in they play the same bloody part, get some unknowns , you dont need z-list people. but still up to you ., still think its going to suck, just like the last ones.
I'm trying not to get too excited about any of these rumors since it's hard to tell which ones are even true, but if John Boyega gets cast, I'd be so happy. He was amazing in Attack the Block, and I'm pretty sure that if he was white, he'd be famous by now. Mostly, though, I'm just glad to hear that they apparently do care about racial diversity.
Boyega is the truth, bout time he got some gold off of Attack The Block which was the business.
Ed Speelers for the next Skywalker lead.
John Boyega is excellent in Attack the Block. But this, and the casting of Inside Llewyn Davis's Adam Driver, are all casting-of-the-moment. These are the hot young crew, picked for the very fact that they are new. Maybe they will be good, but more then likely they will be crammed together and wasted like his cast of Star Trek talents. From a director's POV, casting is where you do half of the work; the people you pick are the people you trust can solve the challenges you are presenting, not just assembling a Vanity Faire cover.
Are any actresses on Abrams' list of finalists? This is all dudes.
