While Joaquin Phoenix is perhaps best known for his bromances with James Gray and Paul Thomas Anderson, you might have forgotten there’s another director he’s pretty chummy with: M. Night Shyamalan. The duo have made two films together, "Signs" (which is legitimately good, in my opinion) and "The Village" (which is… not), and the pair are set to to work together again for the first time in over a decade.

Variety reports the Phoenix will star in a new film to be directed by Shyamalan, and plot details are of course under wraps. But low budget outlet Blumhouse Productions is behind this project, as they are with Shyamalan’s upcoming found footage thing "The Visit," so presumably it will be a small scale affair. But then again, Blumhouse was also one of the folks behind "Whiplash," so who knows…
Either way, we’re intrigued, if only because Phoenix tends to be selective about the movies he does. And certainly, a lot has changed in both his and Shyamalan’s careers in the eleven years since they’ve worked together, so it’ll be interesting to see what they cook up.
Yes!! Nice to see some supporters of \’The Village\’. I adore it. The rhythm to the dialogue (especially William Hurt\’s character), the colour, atmosphere, performances, music & cinematography are all excellent. The stabbing scene is in fact one of my favourite in history. The cinematography, editing & sound all combine to make that scene in particular a real gut punch.
i agree with everyone…the village is a really good movie. the concept was stellar. i believe shayamalan at the the time was the only choice for the director\’s chair, but had the project been in the hands of a better director and it could have been a classic.
one cannot get away when they diss the village
sorry….the village is his best movie..
The Village is great. Jagernauth is clueless yet again.
The Village is very satisfying, stylish and underradted!
The Village is very good. Beautifully acted and scored. Way under-rated.
Glad to see so much love for The Village. It\’s definitely imperfect, but I think it may be Shyamalan\’s strongest film to date.
The Village is criminally overlooked and underrated. It\’s Shyamalan\’s most personal, elaborate, mature and accomplished work to date.
\’The Village\’ i also agree is a nice film 7/10 maybe. last good one he made.
The Village is honestly excellent. If it came out this year, critics would be falling over themselves to praise it (cough – The Witch – cough)
The Village is good. Very stylish and atmospheric. The twist… eh…
