Earlier this month, it was revealed that Joaquin Phoenix was Todd Phillips‘ top choice to play the Joker in a standalone movie that would pretend that Jared Leto in “Suicide Squad” never happened. Of course, it was all subject to Warner Bros. signing off on the casting idea, and frankly, who wouldn’t approve the choice? However, if Phoenix is playing Batman’s greatest villain, it appears no one has told him about it yet.
Allocine attempted to ask Phoenix about the Joker movie, and he seemed puzzled as heck that it even existed. “What movie about the Joker?” he asked, and as the interviewer probed further, Phoenix simply said, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Has Warner Bros not given Phillips the okay to approach Phoenix? Perhaps this was an interview that was truly lost in translation? Or perhaps Phoenix is truly giving the performance of a lifetime in playing dumb. Given how chaotic DC Films seems to be, I’d wager Phoenix’s casting is still being worked out among suits, before they formally present the project to him. But that’s just my guess. At any rate, it seems the role is still wide open, so get those audition tapes in, or share your wishlist casting in the comments section.
I imagine this is a Bowfinger-like situation.
Hahaha that would be excellent
…Or maybe he’s fuckin about? *cue The Simpsons “What’s a truck?” GIF*
“Don’t play dumb with me!”
I’d hate to see Phoenix lower himself to do such a ridiculous thing. He’s an excellent, serious actor with something on his mind as obvious from the choices of roles that he takes. Yet, even he might not be able to resist the huge amount of money he would make and the fame that would come with it. Just look at Jennifer Lawrence who’s work in Winter’s Bone was excellent. Nothing like that since she allowed herself to be consumed by the Hollywood machine when they offered her fame and fortune for doing such vapid junk like the Hunger Games movies. Now she’s fully embedded in the shallow and slick Hollywood machine and there isn’t one iota of a serious actress left in her. Good for her. She’s rich and famous. To me she’s become this silly bimbo on the red carpet and talk shows who hasn’t a clue and is buying all the PR media hype around her to the point of thinking she’s important and people should listen to what she has to say. I find her embarrassing. I’d hate to see Phoenix go that same route. In the end, who cares? It’s there lives to do with what they want. For shallow fanboys who dig this phony Hollywood slick stuff just re-read my last two sentences. They can do what they want…it’s their lives. Phoenix is interesting at this moment. Lawrence is a bore and shallow and ‘acts’ all the time.
“shallow fan boys”? LOL! Isn’t it VERY SHALLOW to judge an artist on how they act on the “red carpet and talk shows” instead of their actual performances? Have you even seen her last 5 movies? Or do you just watch award shows and talk shows and base all your opinions on that? As for Phoenix playing ‘The Joker’ he would “lower himself to do such a ridiculous thing” as to play a comic book character. Hmm… maybe you should ask Jack Nicholson about his Oscar-winning/Fan-loving performance as ‘The Joker’ in ‘Batman’. Or ask ANYONE about Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning performance as ‘The Joker’. No one could follow Heath Ledger. Leto “tried” his best but even he couldn’t follow Heath’s performance. So WHOEVER plays ‘The Joker’ next will be in a much better position to create a fully realized character with a LOT of baggage. Only a few actors would be able to this in a way substantial to the character. Also, if you’re not a fan of these movies, and clearly you are not, then why even bother coming here in the first place? Secondly, I will help you burn every copy of ‘The Hunger Games’ on the planet! 😛
Yea, you know…shallow fan boys who take the bait of a bare hook. I was fishing for a bare hook and caught a shallow fan boy…lol…sorry…can’t help but have a bit of fun with you guys who like this silly comic book stuff. Guys who if they don’t like that someone doesn’t like the tripe they like they want to suppress their right to say so. Immaturity. That’s all it is….thus…shallow fan boy. I come here to express my opinions on different kinds of films…as is my right, Tracy. I think only idiots like these stupid movies and laugh at their replies…like yours…that are immature rants because someone reveals the truth about certain junk that’s laid on our culture for all to either accept without any kind of critical analysis. Sort of like riding on some ride in an amusement park, although I think even fans of rides like that judge their worth or not. You see, Tracy…the uncritical acceptance typical of the herd mentality is where all ignorance takes seed and grows. Usually into evil doings because the masses and their ignorance are blind to it. Peace, bubba. Grow up. I was fishing with a bare hook and you took the (non) bait. You sound like you might be about 10 years old the way you get all excited about this kind of vapid trash. That’s a pity…but hey…it’s your right. Don’t bother responding as I’m blocking you as my interest in any kind of dialogue with you has run its course.
Haha thanks for sharing this. He’s truly perplexed in the video. It’s interesting how far a story can go sometimes
Jack Nicholson should play the Joker’s father during the inevitable flashback scenes. Phoenix would obviously be a good choice, but then so was Leto and we know how that went. In ‘Suicide Squad’, they tried to keep the Joker to a minimum as to not make the movie all about him. In doing so, they destroyed any momentum Leto’s performance carried. This time, with ALL the focus on the character, any actor will have a great opportunity to shine. In the end, so long as they don’t get Will Ferrel or Mark Walberg, the movie should be good.
