Things are looking up for Jesse Eisenberg. Last week saw “The Social Network” star cast as Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder’s increasingly odd “Batman Vs. Superman”—or whatever it ends up being called—and this week sees one of his projects come back from the dead.
Late last summer, we found out Joachim Trier’s English-language follow-up to “Oslo, August 31st”—which would have not only starred Eisenberg, but also Isabelle Huppert and Gabriel Bryne—would never make it in front of cameras due to being unable to raise the $6.6 million budget needed to shoot the movie. Thankfully, fortune has smiled upon us and the Franco-German TV network Arte has decided, per Cineuropa, to back Trier’s “Louder Than Bombs” under their cinematic branch, Arte France Cinema.
The cast will remain the same for the Trier and Eskil Vogt-scripted drama that will revolve around a late war photographer played by Huppert, whose husband and two sons discover a secret about her past as a retrospective of her work is being put together. Interestingly, the film has been described as having a “Rashomon”-style plot conceit. We’re big fans of Trier and can’t wait to see how it all comes together. “Louder Than Bombs” is set to shoot this fall.
This makes sense. I know Jesse mentioned in an interview before how he found it extremely difficult to get his plays produced pre-Social Network. He surmised that people only began to show interest in his plays when he found fame and acclaim through that movie and thus was very happy to have had the opportunity to star in the David Fincher film. I have followed his career for some time now, and it came as a shock that he agreed to such a high-profile role in a big budget film, the news of which drew mixed reactions. Now I can understand why.
Hopefully this is Huppert's ticket to the Oscar, after so many snubs
Exciting news, look forward to it.
YESSSS
great news! I wonder who the other brother would be? Paul Dano seems like an Eisenberg/Huppert relation
great news. could it be that jesse eisenberg's latest news (cast as lex luthor) has made him slightly more marketable and swayed the decision of financiers?
I'M SO HAPPY!!!!
this is extremely good news!
