Nerd wet-dream alert! Yes, we don’t report on TV too much, but this one’s too hard to pass up. According to EW, geek godhead J.J. Abrams is shopping around a
crime-thriller series conceived by “The Dark Knight” co-writer Jonathan Nolan.
Further details are non-existent, but apparently one network is seriously interested in what so far is an untitled project. Gee, really? No shit. We expect a bidding war. While it’s a nice-sounding team-up, Jonah, J.J., we like to watch movies, not TV that starts out great and then turns into a melodramatic episode (do like them Brits, they know when a story arc has run its course and their series are wisely concise).
Also, we hope Nolan doesn’t spend too much time writing it as we’d rather see him helping brother Christopher Nolan conceive further great works (he already has a hand in co-writing “Batman 3” and “Superman: The Man Of Steel”). But don’t be surprised when it’s announced that J. Nolan decides to direct a few episodes. Clearly that’s the direction he wants to move in (no pun intended) and television is a great training ground. Btw, those rumors that Nolan would direct “Superman: The Man Of Steel”? Obviously the first time we heard, we laughed (the rumors initially involved a family Nolan-created “Justice League” movie). Then we heard, actually, this could become a reality. Now we’re hearing that chance has probably slipped away, and Nolan moving into TV is another strong indication it’s not going to happen for the aforementioned reasons. Eyes peeled though. We’ve heard a lot of ‘Superman’ rumors of late, but none we felt confident enough to print (not yet anyhow). The one thing is clear. The film is in flux, decision-wise, and things that might have been a potential gameplan a few months ago, are no longer the case.
