We’ve been waiting for news about what filmmaker Jim Jarmusch had up his sleeve next, and since we’ve been patient, the film gods have graced us with a flood of new information. Apparently, Jarmusch is in the process of filming a new film that is dubbed a zombie comedy, and he has one of the best casts we’ve heard about in a long time lined up.
The news about “The Dead Don’t Die” comes from a couple of sources, but each with juicy tidbits. The first news came from an interview that Philly.com had with actor Bill Murray. When asking about his upcoming projects, the actor/comedian said, “I’ve got a good job coming up. Brace yourself: It’s a zombie movie. Jim Jarmusch has written a zombie script that’s so hilarious and it has a cast of great actors: Rosie Perez, Daniel Craig. It’s titled ‘The Dead Don’t Die,’ and it shoots over the summer. But, no, I will not play a zombie.”
As if the news that Jarmusch was doing a zombie comedy with Murray, Perez, and Craig wasn’t enough, we have set photos from the production that’s currently underway. While we don’t make it a habit of sharing set photos, we will link to the Daily Mail, as the photos do give away who all is going to be in the film.
In addition to Murray, Perez, and Craig, the film will star Selena Gomez, Adam Driver, Chloe Sevigny, and Austin Butler. Not too shabby, right? As you probably know, Driver has teamed with Jarmusch recently for 2016’s incredible “Paterson.” And of course, Murray was famously in the Jarmusch film, “Broken Flowers.”
There’s no release date set for the film and no idea about distribution or anything at this point. However, it’s fair to say that if you are anticipating a new Jim Jarmusch film, then 2019 is your year.
Update: Focus Features, amid the news of the film leaking, has confirmed the picture and revealed that Tilda Swinton and Steve Buscemi as well. Here’s the official release, but unfortunately, no other details have been released.
Jim Jarmusch’s new zombie comedy The Dead Don’t Die is underway in production with Focus Features. This is the writer-director’s third film with Focus having previously made Broken Flowers (2005) and The Limits of Control(2009) together. Joshua Astrachan and Carter Logan will produce.
The cast is led by many past Jarmusch collaborators including Academy-Award® nominee Bill Murray (Broken Flowers), Adam Driver (Paterson), Academy-Award® nominee Chloë Sevigny (Broken Flowers), Academy-Award® winner Tilda Swinton (Only Lovers Left Alive, Broken Flowers), Steve Buscemi (Mystery Train), as well as Selena Gomez in her first Jarmusch feature.
