There are many movies we’re looking forward to this fall (click here for the complete list of them), but near the very top of the list is “Crimson Peak.” The latest film from Mexican master Guillermo Del Toro, it promises to be a lavish Gothic horror on a scale that we haven’t seen for years, and, fingers crossed, could provide the perfect midpoint between the director’s big-budget fare and his more artful Spanish-language pictures.
Mia Wasikowska stars as a young American writer swept off her feet by a British aristocrat (the currently omnipresent Tom Hiddleston), only to discover when he brings her home that both his creepy old house of the title, and his even creepier, worryingly close sister (Jessica Chastain) could be deadly threats.
Now, you can get your best look at what to expect thanks to a new clip that just debuted at Yahoo Movies.
It sees Wasikowska newly arrived at Crimson Peak, and looking for a warm welcome, which Chastain decidedly isn’t giving. From this brief impression, it looks like Del Toro’s expertly walking the campy/classy tightrope (we love Hiddleston’s line about the “pipes will run red”), and we can’t wait for more. Watch the clip below, and you can watch the film in full from October 16th.
