Jessica Chastain & Oscar Isaac Face ‘A Most Violent Year’ In New Pics From J.C. Chandor’s Oscar Contender

A Most Violent Year

I’m gonna be blunt: it was a f*cking crime that Oscar Isaac wasn’t nominated for Best Actor for “Inside Llewyn Davis.” But the good news is that, along with the Coen Brothers, Nicolas Winding Refn, and this week, J.J. Abrams, “All Is Lost” and “Margin Call” director J.C. Chandor has also recognized his talent. And this fall, Isaac will be back in the awards season hunt co-starring with Jessica Chastain in Chandor’s “A Most Violent Year.”

Filming has already wrapped on the intriguing sounding drama, and after a first look at Chastain in February, some new snaps are here. Co-starring Albert Brooks, Alessandro Nivola, David Oyelowo and Catalina Sandino Moreno among others, the film is set in 1981, in New York City, and tells the story of Abel (Isaac), an immigrant trying to find success in the gasoline business, who runs into underworld dealings, all in the most violent year in the city’s history. And that sounds like a pretty terrific premise. As for Chastain, she plays Anna, Abel’s wife, whose connections may be of some help.

No release date, but the film is due this fall from A24. [EW via JessicaChastainWeb]

  1. That double-breasted suit. That camel overcoat. That bow-legged swagger. It's like the second coming of Pacino.

    Isaac x Chastain = +1

  2. Don't get rid of that first sentence. Keep it. It is your opinion and you're entitled to it. I was also outraged when Oscar Isaac was not nominated for his performance in 'Inside Llewyn Davis.'

And James M, do not get in to the discourse about the idea of a 'credible site.' Yer, you should be less prudish – it helps in life.

  3. Agreed on that first sentence. For me, it's the cursing. I'm as big a fan of foul language as the next guy; in fact, f**k is one of my favorite words. But for a credible site like Indiewire? No.
