Jerry Bruckheimer is a legendary producer, especially if you’re someone who grew up on ‘80s and ‘90s action films. But even after decades in the business, he’s still a powerhouse in the industry, producing things like the most recent “Bad Boys” sequel and “Top Gun: Maverick.” Bruckheimer is responsible for some of the biggest franchises in Hollywood right now. However, some of those franchises are in a bit of a flux, with some major questions looming large.
Speaking to THR, Jerry Bruckheimer talked about the success of “Top Gun: Maverick,” as well as the future of another one of his major franchises, “Pirates of the Caribbean.” And unfortunately, he doesn’t have any solid news about either of them.

The biggest questions seem to be about the ‘Pirates’ franchise. With the Johnny Depp drama, Disney seems keen on moving into spinoff territory with the film series. There have been multiple projects being developed at once, including one with Margot Robbie in the lead, as well as one focused on a younger cast. Bruckheimer isn’t confident which one will come first, but he does think both will eventually see the light of day (even though Robbie said hers is dead).
“I think we’re getting very close on that one, too,” said Bruckheimer about “Pirates” spinoffs. “We have a very good script. We developed two of them — the one with Margot Robbie and one with a younger cast. The Margot Robbie one needs a little more work. The younger cast one is close. Hopefully, we’ll get both of them.”
Speaking about Robbie’s claim that her spinoff isn’t moving forward, he said, “It’s alive for me. It’s alive for Disney. I’m sure she was disappointed it didn’t go first — or maybe not because she’s very busy, so it might be a blessing to push this a bit. We believe we’ll get it made. It’s a very strong story.”

As for another “Top Gun” sequel, after the massive success of “Maverick,” Bruckheimer is more cautious about promising anything. However, he fully believes that if Tom Cruise wants to make it happen, then it will happen.
“He’s in the middle of shooting ‘Mission: Impossible 8,’ and that’s his focus,” said the producer. “Once he finishes, we can have a conversation. But then he goes up in space and something else. So I have no idea.”
How many of these franchise films will get made? We’ll just have to wait and see.
