Got a Tip?

Jeremy Renner May Star In ‘You’re Not You’ With Hilary Swank, Clive Owen & Uma Thurman Go ‘Blind’

More Casting Bits: Alice Eve & Liev Schreiber Join Director Mark Pellington, Craig Bierko Will Play A ‘Stooges’ Villain

Producers in Cannes talk loose. There’s a bevy of talks, negotiations and (shudder) pre-attachment deals going on around the Croisette this week, but don’t be surprised if all the actors announced don’t actually appear in the films they’re touted to be in (see last year when, for example Amy Adams was listed in the original version of John Hillcoat’s “The Wettest County,” which died and then came back to life this year). A lot of these are early teasing promises to get investors involved and sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t.

In even more tenuous news, “Something Borrowed” producer Molly Smith talked to our colleague Anne Thompson. Smith says she’s working on another female-driven drama called “You’re Not You” that already has Hilary Swank attached. The man they want for the lead? Jeremy Renner. At this point, it would be a change of pace for the two-time Academy-Award-nominated actor who seems to be currently renting a loft in Tentpoleville these days. But Renner, who is set to lead “The Bourne Legacy,” co-star in “Mission: Impossible 4” (whisper: “ghooost protocoool!”), face-off in “The Avengers” and appear in god knows what other A-list projects are currently being offered to him, is a busy, busy man with lots of options.

We’d suspect he’d take the offer if the script was like, Paddy Chayefsky good, but dunno, right now this sounds a little thin. More casting bits below.

This is either total bullshit and or publicists for both actors straight out lied to us months ago (not the first time, won’t be the last). Clive Owen and Uma Thurman are reportedly in talks to star in the drama, “Blind.” Now normally we might wish colon cancer on this project, but that wouldn’t be quite right, plus Mark Damon’s Foresight Unlimited is selling it in Cannes and he’s producing (and everyone knows he’s the nicest dude in the business). The picture centers a novelist (presumably Owen) who was blinded in a car crash that killed his wife and several years later rediscovers his passion for life and writing when he embarks on an affair with the neglected wife (presumably Thurman) of an indicted businessman. Norman Mailer‘s son, John Buffalo Mailer, wrote the screenplay.

French hottie Guillaume Canet (“Little White Lies“) and Radu Mihaileanu (“The Concert“) will direct their English-language debuts. Canet, who directed the very excellent French thriller “Tell No One” (and is also lucky enough to be the father of Marion Cotillard‘s upcoming debut child) has apparently written an “expensive” movie (haven’t we all) which will be an international affair set in the U.S and France, and will star actors from both countries (yes, it’s thin at this point). Meanwhile, Mihaileanu has a so-far-untitled L.A.-set dramedy which will reportedly feature two U.S. stars that aren’t named at this time (won’t they all).

Mark Pellington, who is still apparently allowed to make movies despite helming the risible and godawful “Henry Poole Is Here” and the reportedly disastrous Sundance 2010 film, “I Melt With Youwill be directing Liev Schreiber and Alice Eve in a psychological thriller called “Story/Teller.” The story is set in a “world of secrets, guilt and paranoia.” Congratulations?

As you’ve probably heard by now, Craig Bierko has been set to play the villain in the Farrelly brothers‘ “The Three Stooges” film.

There’s even more. French comedian Dany Boon (“Micmacs“) and German actress Diane Kruger (“Inglourious Basterds“) are going to star in a high-concept action-adventure comedy “Fly Me To The Moon,” directed by Pascal Chaumeil, the man behind last year’s charming “Heartbreaker” hotties Romain Duris and Vanessa Paradis. Derek Luke and Lindsay Sloane have joined the projectSeeking A Friend At The End of the World,” Bryan Singer is producing the unfortunately titled Internet thriller “uwantme2killhim,” “Rabbit Hole” actor Miles Teller will star in21 And Over,” which will be directed by “‘The Hangover” writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, “300” writer Kurt Johnstad has been drafted to rework the script for James Mangold‘s “The Gunslinger,” and lastly, “Saw” director Darren Bousman is going to helm what is being described as a “The Shining“-style horror tale called “The Barrens.”

This is just a taste. Expect much more news to come out of the South of France this week and next.
