Got a Tip?

Jennifer Lawrence To Play Fidel Castro’s Lover ‘Marita’ In Project Penned By ‘American Hustle’ Writer

American HustleIt says something about the talent and appeal of Jennifer Lawrence that she was the only one to receive an Oscar nomination for David O. Russell‘s "Joy." And at 25 years old, there are few if any other actresses her age who can team up with a writer, shop a project around town, and land a deal for a movie that’s not part of some branded IP or blockbuster slate. And that’s just what she’s done.

THR reports Lawrence will play Fidel Castro’s Marita Lorenz in "Marita." The movie comes from the pen of "American Hustle" scribe Eric Warren Singer, who researched the life of Lorenz, who had an affair with Castro at the age of 19, became pregnant, had an abortion, and joined the anti-Communist movement in the U.S. after leaving Cuba. (Oh, she also claims to be have been involved in JFK’s assassination). After putting it together, Singer brought the movie to Lawrence, and they landed a deal at Sony, who will be gearing up to release the actress’s sci-fi effort "Passengers" later this year.

No word yet on who will direct, but it sounds like a great gig for whoever gets it, and no doubt Lawrence will likely have a say on who goes behind the camera.

  1. "Best actress of her generation by far. Thank God for Jennifer Lawrence! "

Ha ! Ha ! Ha ! I Jen is still a lukewarm actress that plays herself in all her roles, and critics continue to grade her with a curve because of her popularity.
