Netflix has just announced a new original film, and it’s a political comedy with a twist.
“First Ladies,” tells the story of the first female President of the United States, played by Jennifer Aniston and her wife, the First Lady, played by veteran comedian Tig Notaro. The Netflix Original will be written by Notaro and her real-life fiancée Stephanie Allynne. Notaro will be wearing many hats on the project, also serving as a producer.
Aniston has a busy slate ahead of her. Her newest film, “The Yellow Birds,” is scheduled to hit theaters soon, followed by the musical “Dumplin,’” and the as-yet-untitled TV series she is producing alongside Reese Witherspoon for Apple. She has, of course, won numerous awards for her role on the classic TV series, “Friends,” and was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2015 for the film “Cake.”
Notaro has seen her star rise quite a bit in recent years after launching the critically-acclaimed Amazon TV series “One Mississippi,” which also saw Allynne as a writer and actor. She and Netflix have also developed a relationship, as Notaro’s original comedy special, “Tig Notaro Happy to Be Here,” debuts May 22 on the streaming service. Notaro will also direct Ellen DeGeneres’ upcoming Netflix original comedy special.
No word on a release date for “First Ladies,” but with Notaro spearheading the project and Aniston set to star, this looks to be a Netflix Original film that you might actually want to watch.
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
First Ladies is a political comedy about America’s first female President and her wife, The First Lady. When Beverly and Kasey Nicholson move into the White House, they’ll prove that behind every great woman… is another great woman.
