Got a Tip?

Jason Clarke To Star As Abe Lincoln’s Father In Terrence Malick-Produced ‘The Green Blade Rises’

null

Earlier today we were just writing about "The Green Blade Rises," one of a whole host of projects Terrence Malick has in the pipeline. Of course, he's just producing this film, which tells the story of a young Abraham Lincoln and his hardscrabble upbringing, with writing and directing duties handled by his protégé and collaborator A.J. Edwards. It was already announced that Sarah Lincoln, Abe's stepmother, would be played by Diane Kruger, but she'll be joined by Jason Clarke, who is in final negotiations to play Tom Lincoln, Abe's father.

The Australian actor has steadily making it up the ranks, having already appeared in "Public Enemies," "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps," "The Texas Killing Fields," and last week's superb "Lawless" (he plays one of the Bondurant brothers that isn't Tom Hardy or Shia LaBeouf). But Clarke is poised for a breakthrough – first appearing in Kathryn Bigelow's true-life actioner "Zero Dark Thirty" and then, next year, co-starring in Baz Luhrmann's lavish 3D Fitzgerald adaptation "The Great Gatsby" and Roland Emmerich's big budget presidential thriller "White House Down." He is probably more widely known to TV audiences, having appeared in Showtime's beloved "Brotherhood" and briefly on Shawn Ryan's one-season warrior "The Chicago Code." And oh yeah, he has Malick cred as one of the 30,000 actors who will probably end up being cut out of "Knight of Cups."

Malick, Nicolas Gonda and Charley Beil, all of whom collaborated on the just-premiered "To the Wonder," will be back to produce "The Green Blade Rises." The casting of lil' Lincoln is still a question mark, but we're fairly certain this tale of our 16th U.S. president won't include any vampire hunting. For better or worse. [Deadline
