Guess James Cameron doesn’t have that much of a problem with the wave of post-conversion 3D films that arrived post-“Avatar.” It appears Cameron may have found the director for his 3D “Fantastic Voyage,” and the winner, according to Deadline could be “Clash of the Titans” helmer Louis Leterrier.
Paul Greengrass and Tarsem Singh were once attached (Greengrass is going on to make “Treasure Island” and Tarsem has his own 3D project “Gods Of War“), but if Leterrier gets the gig it would cap off a flurry of activity in the past month in regards to blockbuster directors. An early 2011 start date is being eyed for Fox, and Leterrier would have all of Cameron’s 3D toys to capture the vision of a screenplay originally written by Shane Salerno but now being given an overhaul by Laeta Kalogridis.
‘Voyage,’ for those of you unfamiliar, is a remake of a kitschy 1960’s science fiction feature about a crew of scientists who shrink themselves into a small ship to enter the body of a sick colleague. Leterrier has been in demand for a number of big studio projects lately thanks to the $500 million worldwide take of “Clash Of The Titans.” The project is one of a couple the director is eyeing, and it remains to be seen if he will be signing on board just yet.
