Longtime James Cameron colleague and visual effects expert Steve Quale has lined up his first feature film project, landing in the director’s seat for the franchise that will never die (ha!) “Final Destination 5.” Quale has worked on such films as “Avatar,” “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” and co-directed the documentary “Aliens Of The Deep” with Cameron, but we’re most curious about his lone made-for-TV gig forest fire disaster movie “Superfire.” That sounds terrible/awesome.
Oh hey look, a new poster for “Clash Of The Titans,” or actually, Neil Marshall’s “Centurion.” Yawn, and from our review at SXSW we shouldn’t expect anything more than running, grunting, sword clanging and mostly zero plot or characters. That’s unfortunately where Neil Marshall has landed after a fairly auspicious start. Why Michael Fassbender took this job is anyone’s guess. The film hits theaters August 27, 2010, but actually hits VOD way earlier on July 23 (never a very good sign frankly, as if our review didn’t tell us enough).
Legendary special effects make up artist and guru Rick Baker (“Star Wars,” Peter Jackson’s “King Kong,” “Hellboy”) has confirmed he will return to “Men In Black III.” Baker had worked on the previous installments of the film, and has plenty of time to get his toolbox ready this time around. The film isn’t scheduled to hit cinemas until May 25, 2012 and yes, it will be 3D.
Of Montreal’s krautrock-inspired 11 minute opus “The Past Is A Grotesque Animal” was recently reconfigured and featured in Spike Jonze’s solid short robot love story “I’m Here.” The refreshed track, featuring Yeah Yeah Yeahs axe slinger Nick Zinner and members of the Moonrats will be given a vinyl only, 12″ single release via Polyvinyl Records on June 27th. And act quickly, only 500 of these will be available. Listen to the original jam below:

A new clip from the forthcoming Duplass brothers comedy “Cyrus” has landed, and it shows all it takes to get the party started is a little enthusiasm. No matter how awkward. In the spot John. C Reilly takes a break from flirting with Marisa Tomei to sing along with Human League’s “Don’t You Want Me.” It’s a pretty amusing little bit that’s just a window to what’s in store when “Cyrus” begins its theatrical rollout on June 18th. You can read our near rave review from SXSW here.
That poster reminds of the newest Inception posters.
Final Destination 5 could really be a fun thrill ride that is for sure. I think the name of the game for moviegoers these days is big entertainment. Viewers want a full experience when they go to their local theater and a movie like this could provide that.
I am interested in seeing what is done with it. I work for a high end VFX company so I know there are some amazing things being done and it’s just the beginning of how VFX will revolutionize the movie business.
