Got a Tip?

Jaden Smith To Star As An Alternate Reality Version Of Kanye West In New Showtime Anthology Series

As networks and streaming services try to snatch up as many ideas and pitches as possible in the seemingly never-ending original content arms race, some interesting series and films are going to get the green light. And it appears that Showtime might have somehow landed the most intriguing, and strange, pitch of them all — an anthology series about Kanye West in alternate realities, called “Omniverse.”

You read that right. According to THR, Showtime has picked up a new series from producer Kanye West, which will star Jaden Smith as an alternate reality version of the rapper. And the description for “Omniverse” is exactly what you’d expect a series from the mind of Kanye West, starring Jaden Smith, would sound like, as it’s set to be a limited series “examining the many doors of perception.” Yeah, okay. Sounds…fun.

“Omniverse” is written by Lee Sung Jin. The writer is a relatively new name, but has some serious credits coming up with the Netflix series “Tuca & Bertie,” as well as work on HBO’sSilicon Valley” and the Amazon animated series “Undone.”

All joking aside, West and Smith are two of the most interesting folks to follow on social media, and just, in general. West is one of the most well-known musical artists on the planet, and is often seen doing some outlandish things that end up being applauded by his millions of fans. You know, like holding Sunday Service during Coachella and selling overpriced merch while preaching about Jesus.

And Smith started out as a big-name up-and-coming actor, appearing in the 2010 reboot of “Karate Kid” and the ill-fated sci-fi film “After Earth,” alongside his father Will Smith. Since then, he’s dabbled in music and has made some of the most thought-provoking (and simultaneously head-scratching) quotes you’ll ever read. One of his most famous nuggets is his tweet saying, “If Newborn Babies Could Speak They Would Be The Most Intelligent Beings On Planet Earth.”

That being said, we can’t help but be a little hyped about the prospect of “Omniverse.” It sounds just as strange, and potentially awesome, as anything West and Smith release. So, consider us intrigued, to say the least.
