The Art Directors Guild of America announced the 21st Annual Excellence In Production Design Awards nominations this morning, and the biggest surprise had to be the tie in two categories.
Both the Period Film and Variety, Reality or Competition Series categories have six nominees due to a tie in the nominating voting process. Even with that extra slot in the former and the guild’s three film categories (Period, Fantasy and Contemporary), there were still some notable snubs. “Loving” and “Silence” were left out of Period; “Moonlight,” “Sully,” “20th Century Women” and “A Bigger Splash” did not make the Contemporary field; and, perhaps most shockingly, “The Jungle Book” didn’t make the Fantasy cut.

The television categories feature longtime nominees and winners such as “Game of Thrones,” “Veep” and “House Of Cards” along with newcomers “Stranger Things,” “The Crown” and “Westworld.”
Notably, “Beyoncé: Lemonade” earned four individual nominations: first, as a “whole” in the Awards or Event category, and then with three additional individual nominations for the individual videos “Hold Up,” “Denial” and “6 Inch” in the Short Format: Web Series, Music Video Or Commercial field.
The winners will be announced in a ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 11th.
