Even though the saga is over, and J.K. Rowling has long determined that the adventures of Harry Potter is over, she can’t perhaps help but tinker and wonder. After all, she is writing a movie series based on the Hogwarts textbook, “Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them,” and now she’s openly speculating as to whether or not she was true enough to her “Harry Potter” characters.
In an interview between Rowling and Hermione herself, Emma Watson, in this weekend’s Sunday Times, the author admitted that Harry should’ve wound up with Hermione, not Ron, adding that Hermione and Ron probably would’ve gone to marriage counselling. So why did she pair off Hermione and Ron? “For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron,” she explained.
“I know, I’m sorry, I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility,” the author added. “Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not.”
Watson also agreed with the Harry Potter creator, saying: “I think there are fans out there who know that too and who wonder whether Ron would have really been able to make her happy.”
Controversy! Do you think Rowling is right? Could Ron and Hermione ever actually work? What about poor Ginny? Let us know below. [Yahoo]
I agree with the 2 people below me Ginny should have had a better role which would have had viewers genuinely wanting Harry and her together and when it comes to Ron and Hermione I myself didn't like them at 1st she's way to powerful to be with a SH-MUCK that really didn't no how to use his own powers. Hermione and Harry that I fell would have had to chance the books around because she would be teaching Harry a lot of vital things. Overall I love how the movies came out and I cant complain because most times the authors are there when shooting but don't have complete control over what the final decision that the director has. I would love to see a video Hopefully with the Harry Potter cast in years to come maybe showing their trials and tribulations in the future or just their kids cause Hermione was literally that much of a BAD ASS! Or at least someone from the cast popping into her new movie she's working on with Universal Studios.
No, what JK Rowling should have done was make Ginny a more interesting character.
Honestly, my first reaction is "who the hell cares?", but for sake of discussion, I always thought Ron/Hermione was the bolder move. Harry/Hermione was the obvious "Hero gets the Girl" thing, which is boring. I always liked that there was some obvious sexual tension between Harry and Hermione, but the characters just kind of ignored it best they could. It made for much better drama in the final book with Ron's oblivious jealousy of Harry…
Honestly, I think this is the case of an author second-guessing herself when her initial instincts were actually dead on. It is someone disappointing to hear her now say "Oh, I wish I had have taken the really easy, really obvious path that 95% of all hack writers would have taken, and indulged the cliche trope of the hero getting the girl." Lame.
Honestly, Ron getting Hermione is kinda like Han Solo getting Leia. You assume it'll be Luke, but then, NOPE! Avoiding tropes and subverting expectations is a GOOD THING.
Also, if Harry and Herminoe paired up, it'd have left Jenny and Ron to pair up… eww.
