Got a Tip?

Ivan Reitman Might Be ‘Big In China’

Well “Ghostbusters 3” is still up in the air since everyone is waiting on Bill Murray to stop crashing karaoke parties and getting into fights at football games and read the script already, but Ivan Reitman perhaps sees the writing on the wall and has another project he might direct.

THR reports that the director’s Montecito Pictures shingle has picked up the rights to “Big in China: My Unlikely Adventure Raising a Family, Playing the Blues and Reinventing Myself in Beijing” by journalist Alan Paul. And it’s actually a pretty interesting story. Paul found himself in Beijing when his wife, Rebecca Blumenstein, became The Wall Street Journal China bureau chief. Paul became a stay-at-home Dad and one day, while finding someone to fix his guitar, he came across Woodie Wu and soon the two started up a blues quintet named — wait for it — Woodie Paul, and they became a national sensation. Crazy.

The project is still in early days and is going out to writers, and Reitman isn’t firmed up to direct yet; he’ll likely wait to see how the script turns out. But frankly, it’s the most refreshing project Reitman has eyed in years and we’d rather watch this than the nostalgia driven and likely-to-be-disappointing “Ghostbusters 3.”
