Universal Pictures has announced that Dakota Johnson (“The Social Network,” “21 Jump Street“) will take it off and get it on as Anastasia Steele. The news isn’t entirely shocking—it just over a week ago that she was reported as being a contender—but this is official confirmation that should put the rumors around this role to an end. Kelly Marcel has penned the script that will chronicle the hawt relationship between hunky 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele.
Who will take the male lead? Charlie Hunnam‘s name has been kicked around recently, and author E.L. James has tweeted that he has indeed landed that key role, with Universal confirming the casting. Fans, what do you think?

Since I've learned who was cast I've watched some of his movies and I'll admit he's a good actor and if CLEANED UP he'd pass as Grey, but Johnson is all wrong and now that I'm reading she's not that stable casting her seems to be a cruel thing to do. This could easily be an X rated movie, so I'm guessing it will come away with an R, but even at that what her character has to indure is tough and to be honest she doesn't seem to have the depth the role requires.

Charlie will do great. He's 33 and when shaved and cleaned up looks 28. I saw Pacific Rim and didn't even recognize him. He cleans up really well. I watch Sons of Anarchy and I still think he looks around 28. I'm going to give Dakota a chance since I don't know her. So I won't stone her before she's screwed up the part. I mean, if she sucks, then she sucks, but I'm not going to call that now. No one thought Jennifer Grey could do Dirty Dancing because she wasn't your typical beauty but she proved us wrong. It's all in the acting guys and I think Dakota is cute.

Felicity Jones was offered the role first but declined only because they asked for full frontal nudity! I am so upset because she was so close to being our Ana and now we're stuck with Dakota Johnson! Ugh. Dakota is not the tiny, delicate, big eyed, pretty featured girl that is Ana Steele. It's also reported that offers for her part when to other actresses too before Dakota. Same with the role of Christian. Obviously these 2 were not top of the teams list of choices. I can MAYBE warm up to Charlie, but there is nothing they can do to Dakota to make her the Ana Steele in the books. She may play her personality right, dye her hair brown, and have good chemistry with Charlie but that doesn't change her facial features or her body. Knowing they offered the part to Felicity makes me glad to know that they at least tried to get it right. I still think Garrett Hedlund was a better choice for Christian over Charlie (even though he was never my pick), but he couldn't commit to the whole franchise. I am so disappointed in who they ended up with. No movie for me.

And the worst part the ridiculous ideas of having actors like Michael Fassbender, Anne Hathaway, Emilia Clarke and Christian Bale among other acclaimed stars in this quasi-cheesy mom-porn? A film could affect their careers in a wrong way even with the potential box office cloud?
Seriously, finally two actors will risk their reputation and future prospects to make your film and the best you can do is complaining? This project was doomed since the beginning.

Honestly? Who cares? This whole 50 Shades phenomenon is way over. By the time the movie comes out I doubt there will be anyone but the die hards who care anything about the film. The book was crap, and I doubt the movie will be much better with EL James' involvement.

I'm warming up to Charlie, but there is nothing they can do to make me feel differently about Dakota for Ana. She isn't even pretty and I know Ana isn't super gorgeous, but she IS pretty and is petite, dainty and delicate, with big eyes and pretty features. Dakota is the opposite. She is tall, and doesn't have assets, and looks older than her own age. I don't understand this casting at all. It seem they only went by chemistry, and nothing else. I know that's very important but I don't know what makes them think that alone will make the fans happy. We do after all determine the success of this film, and not appealing to us is a bad move. Yes we couldn't all have our favs cast but had they actually casted actors that embodied the physical characteristics I think we all would be a bit happier and more accepting. I'm sticking to the books. No movie for me.

Nepotism? That really isn't the main factor here. Riley Keough (who also isn't a great actress) is the granddaughter of Elvis and I didn't see her name bandied about. And she was engaged to Alex Pettyfer who was supposedly in the running for the role of Christian Grey. I don't think she will do this role justice as she is not that great of an actress. At all. Seriously. E.L. James should have never been given so much weight with the casting.
