If you want to know how strong the goodwill that Wes Anderson carries around is, all you have to do is look at the absolutely great and kinda bonkers cast for his new movie, “Isle Of Dogs.” In no particular order, F. Murray Abraham, Bob Balaban, Bryan Cranston, Greta Gerwig, Jeff Goldblum, Akira Ito, Scarlett Johansson, Harvey Keitel, Bill Murray, Kunichi Nomura, Edward Norton, Yoko Ono, Koyu Rankin, Liev Schreiber, Tilda Swinton, Akira Takayama and Frank Wood, all lend their voices to what is hopefully another winning picture from the filmmaker.
A return to the stop-animation techniques of “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” all we know of the story so far is that it’s set in Japan, follows a boy’s odyssey in search of his dog. However, now we know more as the official synopsis has been revealed:

ISLE OF DOGS tells the story of ATARI KOBAYASHI, 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture.
Anderson is coming off the hugely successful “The Grand Budapest Hotel” which earned $174 million worldwide, his biggest earner to date. And with a prime spring release date, everyone involved looks like they’re aiming to build out another strong earner.
“Isle Of Dogs” opens on March 23, 2018 in limited release.

How can people be happy about this kind of cultural appropriation and racist depiction of Japanese people and culture?
A movie full of unpleasant prejudice. Japan in this film seems to be North Korea. People who speak Japanese in this movie are ugly savages and intelligent dogs speak English. Do we abuse dogs? No.
In Japan, dogs are often enshrined in shrines as messenger of a god.
The Shogun of the Edo Period set out a law to treat dogs like gods.
And the metaphor of the atomic bomb is very unpleasant to us. Today, Japan is targeted by North Korea’s nuclear missiles. Wes, I know Hollywood always hate Japan, but do you feel this expression is funny?☹️
