Got a Tip?

Isabelle Huppert To Play Three Different Characters Named Anne In Hong Sang-soo’s ‘In Another Country’

null

We recently got our first look at Isabelle Huppert in her forthcoming effort with Korean auteur Hong Sang-soo in "In Another Country," but with the unveiling of a more in depth synopsis, it now looks like Hong has made the most of having such a renowned thespian at his disposal.

Screen Daily reveals that Huppert will play three leading characters all named Anne who "consecutively visit a seaside town. They each stay at the same small hotel by the shore and venture onto the beach where each of the Annes meet a group of the same people including a certain lifeguard who restlessly wanders up and down the beach." Yu Jun-Sang (the star of Hong's 'HaHaHa,' pictured above) co-stars. Moon So-ri, Yoon Yeo-jeong, Jeong Yu-mi and Moon Seong-geun are also involved

The notion of one actress playing multiple characters isn't one that's foreign to Hong either, with actress Kim Bo-kyeong playing two different characters in the prolific helmer's "The Day He Arrives" last year. "In Another Country" is currently in post-production, with our fascination in the film lying not only with the Hong-Huppert teaming but also how the director will handle a female protagonist — a noted deviation from his usual wheelhouse of films centering on male leads.

No release date yet, but Hong is widely expected to return to his old stomping ground of Cannes to premiere the film in May.
