Got a Tip?

Isabel Lucas Confirms She Is In Terrence Malick’s ‘Knight of Cups,’ Says Film Will Be Out In 2015

Isabel Lucas Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen

Over the past few months, some of the actors who stopped by the set of Terrence Malick‘s “Knight Of Cups” have shared their unique experiences working on the movie. Joel Kinnaman described having to deal with a seventeen-page monologue, Cate Blanchett called it a “quasi-religious” experience, Teresa Palmer talked about Malick’s method of “torpedoing” the actors, and Antonio Banderas thinks he’s made the final cut, though some of the material he doesn’t even remember shooting. And now another actress reveals that she too has probably survived the editing process, but adds that we’ll perhaps be waiting much longer to see the finished product.

Yesterday we ran into “Electric Slide” actress Isabel Lucas and her director on that film, Tristan Patterson, as they made their rounds at the Tribeca Film Festival. We couldn’t help but ask what she had coming up next, partially because we were kind of curious if she was going to pop up in the next “Transformers” movie (remember when she was Shia LeBeouf‘s robotic dorm room seductress in “Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen“?) Instead, she gave us some details about her involvement in “Knight Of Cups,” including a potential release date.

“I worked with Terrence Malick right before working with Tristan, two years ago,” Lucas revealed. “So ‘Knight of Cups‘ will be coming out next year.”

When we joked that we hope she had made the cut, since you never know with Terrence Malick films, Lucas confirmed that she had communicated with the elusive director and that he had made it very clear that she was still in the movie. “He said I am definitely in the film.” Patterson interjected: “She did ADR!”

As always you never really know until it’s all put together, but you can probably count on Isabel Lucas definitely, probably, almost 100% being in “Knight of Cups.” As for the release, it looks like Malick is taking his time and is in no particular hurry to get it out there, so shrug off thoughts of a festival premiere later this year and keep your eyes on 2015.

  1. I really hope they get a US distributor during Cannes film market. It would make things go faster. Unless Malick wants to wait until the Untitled is also completed, so that both films are released within a few months next year…
Fremaux said in a THR interview that a movie may be added to the competition if it's ready. Maybe he was talking of KOC.

  2. not exactly sure what to expect at this point…i kinda wanna put aj edwrads word above all (he confirmed that cups and untitled will see "screens" this year) seeing as he is an editor on the project, but there are too many variables as of right now. i guess the best i can hope for is that it makes venice/telluride/tiff and we get to see trailers start rolling out.

  3. funny, the more i hear/read about this film, the less enthused i am for it. i hope malick keeps religion out of Knight of Cups and Untitled, as i found it to be the weakest aspect of both Tree of Life (the final act) and To the Wonder.

For the film to "come out next year" it's still likely it'll see festival release this year, being that Ms. Lucas could view this in a more pragmatic way in knowing that independent films can take their time from fest showing, distrib pick-up and eventual release.
