Got a Tip?

Is ‘Red Asphalt’ Next For Timur Bekmambetov?

It’s been a couple of years now since Timur Bekmambetov made his Hollywood debut with “Wanted” and the guessing game about what he’s going to tackle next continues. He’s been attached to host of projects including “Wanted 2,” “The Witch Hunter” and “Moby Dick” as potential upcoming directorial vehicles, all of which have stalled for various reasons. “Wanted 2” most recently hit a road block when Angelina Jolie bailed on the project.

Now, the LA Times reports that the next project for Bekmambetov might just be the 3D thriller “Red Asphalt.” Not much is known about the project which was picked up by Lionsgate based on a pitch way back in 2008. The script is by Andrew Baldwin who earned some Black List buzz with a Depression-era drama called “The West Is Dead.”

Whether or not this ends up being the next project the director tackles remains to be seen. However, given the 3D angle to film and studios falling over themselves to get new films in that format up on screen as quickly as possible, it seems to be good bet.
