‘The Irregulars’ Teaser Trailer: Netflix Puts A Dark YA Spin On The Sherlock Holmes Story In New Series

We’ve seen studios take just about every angle they can with the Sherlock Holmes mythology. We’ve seen straight-forward adaptations of the Arthur Conan Doyle stories. Some try to update it for the modern-day (“Sherlock”). Others focus on Holmes’ siblings (“Enola Holmes”). And Netflix aims to take yet another shot at the Sherlock story with “The Irregulars.”

As seen in the teaser for “The Irregulars,” the series keeps the Victorian setting of the stories but supplants Holmes and his partner Dr. Watson as the protagonists in favor of a group of young teens that help solve some dark murders. The series is based on the Baker Street Irregulars gang of misfit street kids from Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories, but Netflix adds a bit of a horrifying supernatural edge to the proceedings.

“The Irregulars” is written and executive produced by Tom Bidwell (“Watership Down,” “My Mad Fat Diary”). The lead director is Johnny Allan (“Endeavour“) with Joss Agnew (“The Split,” “Poldark“) and Weronika Tofilska (“Last Train“) also helming episodes.

The cast includes an ensemble led by Thaddea Graham (“Letter For The King,” “Us“) as Bea, Darci Shaw (“Judy,” “The Bay“) as Jessie, Jojo Macari (“Sex Education,” “Hard Sun“) as Billy, Mckell David (“Snatch,” “Damilola Our Loved Boy“) as Spike, and Harrison Osterfield (“Catch 22“) as Leopold. Of course, Sherlock is going to show up, played by Henry Lloyd-Hughes (“Killing Eve,” “The Inbetweeners,” “Indian Summers“). He’s joined by Royce Pierreson (“Judy,” “The Witcher,” “Line of Duty“) as John Watson.

Here’s the official synopsis:

The Irregulars is a dark, mysterious eight-part drama that follows a gang of troubled street teens who are manipulated into solving crimes for the sinister Doctor Watson and his mysterious business partner, the elusive Sherlock Holmes. As the crimes take on a horrifying supernatural edge and a dark power emerges, the Irregulars (based on the Baker Street Irregulars gang from the original books by Sir Arther Conan Doyle) must come together to defeat larger-than-life forces.

“The Irregulars” will debut on March 26 on Netflix. Watch the first teaser trailer below.
