Got a Tip?

‘Iron Man 3′ Writer Drew Pearce To Do Minor Rewrite On Gareth Edwards’ ‘Godzilla’

null"Godzilla" is happening, and likely realizing just how important (and potentially lucrative) this franchise is, Legendary and Warner Bros. are making sure everything is done to ensure the best movie possible. While Comic-Con attendees got a memorable teaser this summer, the unveiling was also likely a testing ground of sorts, and you can bet that if response was muted, the studio wouldn't have booked a 2014 release. The wheels are firmly in motion for "Monsters" director Gareth Edwards' first stab at the blockbuster pie, but before casting begins, the script will get one last, tiny polish.

Rising writer Drew Pearce — who graduated from Brit TV to pen "Sherlock Holmes: Game Of Shadows" and "Iron Man 3" (with director Shane Black taking a pen to it as well) — has been hired for a final tweak on the script for "Godzilla." Lest you worry this is some kind of "World War Z" emergency, the studio is apparently quite happy with the what they've got, they just want characters to be aged up a bit before they send the material out to potential actors. David Callaham ("The Expendables") wrote the initial draft and he was followed by David Goyer (Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy) and Max Borenstein ("The Seventh Son"), but this many hands isn't so unusual in major tentpoles.

It wil take Pearce about four weeks to finish his job, and then "Godzilla" will start roaring in earnest, with a May 16, 2014 date on the horizon. [Variety]

  1. Hey, you've got wrong photo. Here's the screenwriter's image, and the one you used is of the Califormia musician. http://www.empireonline.com/news/feed.asp?NID=35399
