Look, it’s no secret that “Iron Fist” season 1 was garbage. Outside of some inspired casting, particularly Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing and Sacha Dhawan as Davos (aka Steel Serpent), it was hard to find any bright spots in the overlong, badly choreographed, martial arts superhero show. But hey, people watched it and Netflix is bringing it back for season 2 and we have the first look.
In the short teaser for season 2, it’s clear that Netflix and Marvel really want you to think that Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist, is cool. There’s no plot to speak of, other than ominous narration, but what we do get is more of actor Finn Jones doing his best to appear like he knows kung fu. And while the footage is nothing special, there’s still a little part of me that thinks, “Hmmm…is ‘Iron Fist’ going to be good?”
I know, crazy thought. But after his brief, but fun, appearance in the recent season of “Luke Cage,” there’s been rumblings that maybe, just maybe, Finn Jones can resurrect this DOA series and make it a worthy addition to the Netflix line of Marvel TV series.
With the promise of Dhawan’s Davos getting the villain focus (as he should be) and the addition of Alice Eve as Mary Walker, aka Typhoid Mary (classic Marvel villain), perhaps we can add Marvel’s “Iron Fist” to the must-see list. I mean, it can’t be worse than last season, right?
“Iron Fist” season 2 hits Netflix on September 7.
Here’s the official synopsis for Season 2:
Iron Fist Season 2 features Danny Rand (Finn Jones) as he fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist. Season 2 furthers the transformation of Danny, a character with a fish out of water coming of age story making his way in a harsh new world, battling to work out who he is. This season, Danny has promised that with Matt Murdock gone, he will step up and protect his city. But a sinister plot twist threatens his very identity and he must conquer his villains to protect the town and people he holds close to his heart. Marvel’s Iron Fist Season 2 stars Finn Jones (Danny Rand), Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing), Sacha Dhawan (Davos), Tom Pelphrey (Ward Meachum), Jessica Stroup (Joy Meachum), Simone Missick (Misty Knight) and introduces Alice Eve (Mary Walker). Marvel’s Iron Fist Season 2 is produced for Netflix by Marvel Television and ABC Studios.
Well the show basically only has one place to go… UP. I did enjoy the episode he did on Luke Cage and have enjoyed S2 of Luke Cage more than I thought I would. Bushmaster has been a solid villian for the season and a bit more complex than a lot of the villians who have been more basic IMO. I hope they continue to cross over the ‘Defender’s’ characters for all the series. It could really build something up for a better ‘Defenders’ series if they decide to go that route.
With Marvel television productions, never get your hopes up. It can always get worse. But hey, we’ll always have Daredevil seasons 1 and 2, amirite?
