Though Variety can’t confirm it through official channels like Universal or The Weinstein Company, they say that inside sources have told them that Quentin Tarantino’s audacious WWII epic, “Inglourious Basterds,” will debut at the Cannes like the director said it would all along during the French Riviera film festival in May of 2008.
We’re pretty sure this contretemps means we have to eat our shoe now in public, but then again so does pretty much every other blog in existence who were also incredibly skeptical that he could pull off such a feat given his slow output in recent years (but seriously, congrats to him).
In related news, Variety has written another story called, “If You Can’t Beat ‘Em, Join ‘Em.”
My theory is QT fast-tracked this after he’d looked up and realized he’d only made one solid QT picture this decade (not counting the accidental feature that was the unwatchable “Death Proof”), saw his output was slipping behind even Kubrick and for mathematical esthetic balance felt he had to break off a second solid QT this decade. That or just an intense need to make up for “Death Proof” sooner.
Anyone know is Public Enemies showing at Cannes?
Seems doubtful, but maybe out of competition?
