Got a Tip?

Indie Beat With ‘Jezebel’ Filmmaker & Actor Numa Perrier [Podcast]

Hello one and all! Thanks for tuning in to another iteration of Indie Beat!

Joining us this episode is Numa Perrier. Perrier co-created the platform Black & Sexy TV, an avenue for various web series that the filmmaker was involved in. It eventually grew to encompass other programs and birthed a very dedicated, supportive audience. One of their shows, “The Couple” (which Perrier also has a lead role in), now has a development deal at HBO. She also had a large role in Neferiti Nguvu’sIn The Morning” and scored the lead role in Jennifer Sharp’s upcoming “A Great Movie,” written by Courtney Lilly (“Black-ish“).

Soon after Perrier was selected for Tribeca Film Institute’s Through Her Lens directors program, and with that she developed her short script “Jezebel.” The story follows Tiffany on the eve of her Mother’s death as she moves in with other family members and finds herself in the world of phone sex operators and internet fetish cam girls. Though it was presented as a short form work, Perrier stressed her desire to make it into a feature.

And so it was. After a successful fundraising campaign supported by Ava DuVernay herself, “Jezebel” recently wrapped production and is currently in its final editing stages. Read and contribute to its post-production fundraiser right here.

We spoke with Numa about movie blind spots, the uncertainty regarding the reception to your work, and how to keep at making your art.
