Got a Tip?

In Case You Still Care About ‘The Boondock Saints,’ There Might Be A Prequel TV Series

The Boondock SaintsArriving five years after "Pulp Fiction," Troy Duffy’s "The Boondock Saints" is sort of a twelve-year-old’s idea of what a Quentin Tarantino movie might be like. Violent, unfunny, and immediately disposable in the way so many post-"Pulp Fiction" movies were at the time, there was enough of a cult fanbase for a sequel to be made ten years later. And it appears that someone, somewhere believes that in 2015 there are still enough people who care about "The Boondock Saints" that entertaining a prequel TV series is worth consideration.

Enter IM Global Television who have snapped up the rights to ‘Boondock’ for a TV series that will bring Duffy back into the fold. He’ll pen the thing and direct the first episode. The show will dive into the suddenly very necessary backstory of Connor and Murphy MacManus as they immigrate to South Boston and be badasses, or whatever.

“Since its initial release more than 15 years ago, ‘The Boondock Saints’ has become a true cultural phenomenon,” IM Global TV president Mark Stern told Deadline. “Troy is a consummate storyteller with a compelling vision for a series; the minute we heard it, we were hooked.”

But will anyone else be? Time will tell I suppose, but this seems even more inessential than a "From Dusk ‘Til Dawn" show. Anyway, a showrunner will found before this is shopped around and the marketplace will determine whether the ‘Boondock’ franchise will expand (or not).
