“I’m Done”: Natalie Portman Says She’s Moved On From The Marvel Cinematic Universe

While Marvel seems to have no problem snagging big names for their ever expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, at least one actress has never seemed quite comfortable in the blockbuster films. Natalie Portman, who played Jane Foster in “Thor” and “Thor: The Dark World,” didn’t exactly have the most complex of roles, and for an A-list star, it was a bit dismaying to see how underutilized she was, and perhaps it explains why she’s exiting the series.

Chatting recently with The Wall Street Journal, Portman stated she was largely unlikely to be returning the world of superheroes. “As far as I know, I’m done. I don’t know if, maybe, one day they’ll ask for an ‘Avengers 7’ or whatever. I have no idea! But as far as I know I’m done. But it was a great thing to be a part of,” she said.

It may also be worth remembering that Portman was apparently upset when “Monster” director Patty Jenkins was canned/exited “Thor: The Dark World,” and given the further post-production woes that picture faced (with helmer Alan Taylor revealing he wasn’t fond of the process), perhaps that also played a part in the actress moving on. And to be frank, the MCU isn’t really going to miss her presence either, largely because the role of Jane Foster always seemed like an afterthought.

Thoughts? Let us know below, and yes, this also means Portman won’t be in “Thor: Ragnarok.”

  1. The comic relief sidekick outshone her character in the films she was supposed to take center stage in. That alone told me all I needed to know about how the MCU heads didn’t really care about where Jane fit into Thor’s bigger picture. Seems funny now, given that Jane’s comic counterpart became Thor.
