Kirk: “We are gathered here today to pay final respects to our honored dead. But it should be noted that this death takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new world; a world that our beloved comrade gave his life to protect and nourish. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at these proceedings. Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most… human.”*
Weird, we were just watching the tail end of “Wrath of Khan” last night on TV cause it was on, and we shit you not, we were extolling the virtues of Ricardo Montalban’s performance in that “Star Trek” sequel (the only good film of the franchise).
Sad. The actor was 88. No cause was given. RIP Khan.[Variety] *Yes, that speech is about Spock, but fitting, no?
RIP Ricardo but I have to say my favorite of the Star Trek films is part IV: The Voyage Home. I have no idea how anyone could not enjoy a plot that involves these guys traveling back to present day to save Earth from an alien probe and retrieve the only beings who can communicate with it…humpback whales.
I’m being serious, by the way.
