Word recently surfaced that Marvel wants Jason Statham to play Bullseye in their "Daredevil" series on Netflix. That may or may not be so, but what is clear is that Statham likes his action authentic and gritty, not dressed up with CGI and played by people who couldn’t survive stubbing their toe on set.
Chatting with Italian outlet I 400 Calci, the actor made clear his distaste for action that leans heavily on special effects. “I could take my grandma and put her in a cape, and they’ll put her on a green screen and they’ll have stunt doubles come in and do all the action. Anybody can do it,” he said. “They’re relying on stunt doubles, and green screen, and $200 million budgets, it’s all CGI created. To me, it’s not authentic.” Uh oh, shots fired.
But the action star does have a point. A deluge of CGI rarely feels memorable, and one only has to look at "Mad Max: Fury Road" or Christopher Nolan‘s ‘Dark Knight’ films to see that more practical approaches tend to get the most chatter. Because let’s face it, no one is really talking about the action scenes from "Avengers: Age Of Ultron."

While I agree with what he\’s getting at, Daredevil is kind of a different beast that I think would suit him well. Someone sit Statham down and show him the fight at the end of episode 2.
agreed! cgi action is like watching a hyperactive teenager playing a videogame.
It\’s time to ditch CGI and come up with something new. It sucks, and is boring now.
Ironically, everyone would totally pay to see his grandma in a cape.
Choose a less awesome analogy next time, Stath!
Grandma not grandmum?
Daredevil was garbage! No it wasn\’t, I was just being a contrarian, carry on everyone.
I think I read a while ago Statham saying he\’d pay not to do green screen, hates it. Daredevil would suit him, not a ton of CG being used there and some of the best fight sequences I\’ve seen in ages.
Let\’s be fair, there\’s probably a good chance that Jason Statham\’s grandma is a retired Green Beret with 100 confirmed kills.
Statham still feeling the burn after being turned away from the auditions for Puck in the Alpha Flight film. Joking aside, he\’s right. Practical effects are becoming a lost/dying art.
Totally in agreement.
