You’ve probably seen the memes about how Adam Sandler dresses when he’s in public. Basically, he looks like he’s ready to play an impromptu 3-on-3 basketball game at the drop of a hat. Thankfully, it doesn’t appear that he had to change much about his appearance for the new film, “Hustle.”
As seen in the teaser trailer for “Hustle,” the film tells the story of a basketball scout (Sandler), who finds a young, inexperienced athlete with all the makings of a truly great star. So, the scout takes the young man under his wing and begins to develop the kid’s skills so that he’ll have a shot at the NBA. No, you didn’t see any mention of dick and/or fart jokes. No, there’s no mention of a surprise Rob Schneider cameo. This is one of those serious Adam Sandler films, folks.
Sandler might be best known for his recent string of less-than-stellar Netflix comedy films, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten how to act. Most recently, he earned acclaim for his starring role in the Safdie Brothers “Uncut Jammmzzz.” Hopefully, “Hustle” is more in line with that film in terms of Sandler’s range.
“Hustle” is directed by Jeremiah Zagar and produced by LeBron James. The film is set to debut on Netflix on June 10.
Here’s the synopsis:
After discovering a once-in-a-lifetime player with a rocky past abroad, a down on his luck basketball scout (Adam Sandler) takes it upon himself to bring the phenom to the States without his team’s approval. Against the odds, they have one final shot to prove they have what it takes to make it in the NBA.
