Hugh Grant is one of the most charismatic actors of the past 30 years. However, he’s also known as one of the most volatile to deal with in person. There have been numerous reports of Grant having what he has described as “tantrums.” He’s even admitted to having a “mega-tantrum” about once a year. Well, his reputation reared its ugly head, apparently, while on the set of his newest film, “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.”
In a recent issue of Total Film magazine (via Yahoo), Hugh Grant talked about a time on the set of ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ when he lost his temper and had a tantrum when a woman walked in his eyeline on the first day of filming. As Grant describes the scene, his regret comes from the fact that the woman who committed the faux pas was a civilian and not a studio executive.
“I lost my temper with a woman in my eyeline on day one,” Grant explained. “I assumed she was some executive from the studio who should have known better. Then it turns out that she’s an extremely nice local woman who was the chaperone of the young girl. Terrible. A lot of groveling… “
He added, “I did a Christian Bale.”
The last comment is in reference to the now-infamous audio clip that was released of Christian Bale having a bit of a meltdown on the set of “Terminator: Salvation.” In the audio, it’s clear that Bale is unhappy as he rails against a member of the crew for causing a distraction while he was filming. Grant, jokingly, admits that he experienced much the same thing while filming ‘Dungeons & Dragons.’
Does this have any effect on the finished product? Obviously not. However, it does continue to add to the odd legacy of Grant, who is seemingly a charming man who is deeply flawed in a very public way. So, here’s to waiting a year for his next “mega-tantrum.”
