While Warner Bros. and DC Films continue to mine their DC Comics Universe for heroes from the Justice League, they’re also not forgetting characters from the past and members of the 1940s-set The Justice Society of America. Deadline has word that WB., DC Films, and Chernin Entertainment are partnering on a new DC Comics feature film adaptation of the comic book superhero “Hourman.” They’ve also tasked screenwriters Gavin James and Neil Widener to pen a script; however, a director has yet to be named at this time.

Rex Tyler, aka Hourman, is a family-man chemist who can see tragic events one hour in the future and uses this skill to help prevent them. This concept sounds a lot like Philip K. Dick’s “Minority Report” within the DC Comics universe, except Tyler would be the precog given his visions of the future. It adds a lovely ticking-clock element, something that many excellent action films use, and because of the character’s superpowers, it’s already built-in.

Hourman is also part of the Justice Society of America, a superhero group introduced in Dwayne Johnson‘s solo DC Comics film “Black Adam.” That project is set to begin shooting next month in Atlanta, Georgia; however, it’s unclear if the two JSA worlds and characters will be connected.

Hopefully, Hourman doesn’t end up in limbo like the dozens of other DC projects announced in the past few years only to collect dust at the studio. Back in 2013, it was reported that the CW was developing a series focusing on Hourman, but it never got made.
Other upcoming DC movies include “The Batman,” “The Flash” (which will feature Supergirl), “Shazam! Fury of The Gods,” “Wonder Woman 3,” “Blue Beetle,” “Batgirl,” “Supergirl,” “Aquaman 2,” and a new “Superman” film produced by J.J. Abrams.
