For those that might be ready to forget all about Russell Crowe after “The Mummy,” you might want to wait just a little bit longer before completely writing the actor off. While Crowe has made some odd career choices in the past, it looks like he’s about to star in a film that just might be worth your time.
According to Deadline, Russel Crowe has signed on to star in the upcoming film “True History of the Kelly Gang.” The project, about one of the world’s greatest outlaws, is based on the award-winning novel of the same name, and tells the story of Ned, from his own perspective, as you learn his history and about his family as he rose up from the colonial badlands in Australia.
Joining Crowe is a pretty great cast consisting of George MacKay, Nicholas Hoult, and Essie Davis . Needless to say, these are some great up and coming actors surrounding Crowe. Director Justin Kurzel is helming the project. Kurzel is perhaps best known for “Assassin’s Creed” and 2015’s “Macbeth,” both of which starred Michael Fassbender.

While we joked about “The Mummy,” Crowe has still been starring in quality films. Just last year, Crowe and Ryan Gosling headlined the great “The Nice Guys.” His next film, which is in production now, is “Boy Erased” from director Joel Edgerton. “Boy Erased” is Edgerton’s directorial follow-up to the underrated 2015 thriller “The Gift.”
No release date has been set for “True History of the Kelly Gang,” but filming is scheduled to begin in March 2018, in Victoria, Australia.
McKay is playing Kelly, not Crowe.
Crowe is approximately 400 years too old to play Ned Kelly.
