‘Honor Society’ Trailer: Angourie Rice & Gaten Matarazzo Are Clashing Nerds In The New Teen Comedy

Both Angourie Rice and Gaten Matarazzo know a thing or two about being in massive teen-based ensemble projects. Rice has appeared in all three of the recent ‘Spider-Man’ films and Matarazzo is one of the faces of “Stranger Things.” Now, they combine forces for a new YA film coming to Paramount+, “Honor Society.”

From director Oran Zegmen and Paramount+ comes “Honor Society,” which follows all-around-good student Honor and her great ambition to get into the best university and get out of high school. However, it doesn’t quite go to plan and now Honor must do whatever she can to get that number one spot.

Oran Zegmen will be taking the directing reins, the Los-Angeles based director is best known for her work on the short films “Rebel” and “Marriage Material.” Working alongside Zegmen, David A. Goodman will be writing the movie. Goodman has produced classic adult animated comedies like “Futurama” and “Family Guy.” He’s also written for “The Golden Girls.”

Here’s the official synopsis:

Honor is an ambitious high school senior whose sole focus is getting into an Ivy League college…assuming she can first score the coveted recommendation from her guidance counselor, Mr. Calvin. Willing to do whatever it takes, Honor concocts a Machiavellian-like plan to take down her top three student competitors, until things take a turn when she unexpectedly falls for her biggest competition, Michael.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” star Angourie Rice will play the lead role, Honor. Not only is she smart and calculated, but Honor also possesses a range of skills like karate. However, school counselors won’t be Honor’s only problem.“Stranger Things” star Gaten Matarazzo will be starring as Honor’s school rival and surprise love interest, Michael. Although the two will start as rivals, the pair will unexpectedly grow close and Honor will begin to doubt her big plan.

“Honor Society” also sees Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Honor’s school counselor. Mintz-Plasse is well known from his iconic breakout role as McLovin in “Superbad.” Of course, the McLovin actor has been in many Hollywood blockbusters like “Kick-Ass” and “Kick-Ass 2” as well as the “Pitch Perfect” franchise. It’s just interesting to see McLovin old enough to play the adult in the teen comedy.

“Honor Society” will be streaming exclusively on Paramount+ on July 29.
