‘Home Sweet Home Alone’ Trailer: Disney Takes The Beloved Holiday Classic And Updates It Slightly For 2021

As seen in the trailer for “Home Sweet Home Alone,” the film is seemingly a beat-for-beat retelling of the original “Home Alone” film, which is a classic holiday film and a box office monster. Except, this time, Disney+ has updated the story just a little bit to make it more 2021, while also keeping the basics (“Die Hard” but with a kid defending his house from bad guys) intact.

The new film stars Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, Archie Yates, Aisling Bea, Kenan Thompson, Tim Simons, Pete Holmes, Devin Ratray, Ally Maki, and Chris Parnell. “Home Sweet Home Alone” is directed by Dan Mazer from a screenplay by Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell. And if you’re at all confused about whether or not this is a de facto remake or not, John Hughes gets a Story By credit for the new film. So, there’s that.

“Home Sweet Home Alone” arrives on Disney+ on November 12. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

Max Mercer is a mischievous and resourceful young boy who has been left behind while his family is in Japan for the holidays. So when a married couple attempting to retrieve a priceless heirloom set their sights on the Mercer family’s home, it is up to Max to protect it from the trespassers…and he will do whatever it takes to keep them out. Hilarious hijinks of epic proportions ensue, but despite the absolute chaos, Max comes to realize that there really is no place like home sweet home.
