Today we have some release date changes for next year, so break out those calenders. And believe it or not, a studio is actually putting plans for a 3D movie on ice for the moment.
Fox has decided to shelve their 3D-converted “Independence Day,” originally set for release on July 3, 2013. There’s no comment from the studio on why their plans changed for Roland Emmerich's blockbuster fave, but we'd wager a guess that considering the director's latest flick "White House Down" opens a week before, and the new Will Smith vehicle "After Earth" lands a full month earlier, they didn't want to cannibalize audiences for those pictures (even though they are for rival Sony). Looks like everyone is playing nice.
However, the studio has dated the 3D bows of "Star Wars: Episode II – Attack Of The Clones" and "Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge Of The Sith" with September 9th and October 4th, 2013 respectively. Despite Disney holding the future of the franchise, Fox will still be making money for a little while longer, and certainly interest in those sequels will now be higher as the new sequels continue to dominate movie headlines.
And finally, the latest installment of Paramount’s perennial cash cow now has an official release date. “Paranormal Activity 5” will hit theaters on October 25th, 2013, where it will square off against Edgar Wright’s “The World’s End.” You can guess where we’ll be that weekend. [Box Office Mojo]
