‘Hold Me Tight’ Trailer: Vicky Krieps Stars In Mathieu Amalric’s Twisty Family Drama

Surprise endings aren’t just reserved for M. Night Shyamalan films, you know. Sometimes, a seemingly straightforward family drama can keep the twists and turns going until the very final moments, which is something that is key to the new film, “Hold Me Tight.”

As seen in the new trailer for “Hold Me Tight,” from director Mathieu Amalric, the film follows the story of Camille (Vicky Krieps), who abandons her family for an adventurous life on the road. The film goes back and forth between the new life of Camille, and the devastation she left at home with her husband (Arieh Worthalter) and kids. But perhaps not everything you see is exactly as it seems?

In our review of the film from last year’s Cannes Film Festival, we enjoyed the performances of the film but felt the structure suffered due to a large creative choice that could be seen as divisive. However, the review said, “Still, it’s hard not to embrace the film as a poignant meditation on the disorienting, fractured nature of loss, particularly with the consideration of the last minutes of the film and Krieps’ standout performance, which is difficult to overstate.”

“Hold Me Tight” arrives in theaters on September 9. You can watch the new trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

In Hold Me Tight, Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread, Bergman Island) gives another riveting performance as Camille, a woman on the run from her family for reasons that aren’t immediately clear. Widely renowned as one of France’s great contemporary actors but less well-known in North America for his equally impressive work behind the camera, Mathieu Amalric’s sixth feature as director is his most ambitious to date. This virtuosic, daringly fluid portrait of a woman in crisis alternates between Camille’s adventures on the road and scenes of her abandoned husband Marc (Arieh Worthalter) as he struggles to take care of their children at home. Amalric’s film keeps viewers uncertain as to the reality of what they’re seeing until the final moments of this moving, unpredictable, and richly rewarding family drama.
