Got a Tip?

Henry Cavill, Charlie Hunnam, Alexander Skarsgard & Tom Hardy Eyed For Lead In David Yates’ ‘Tarzan’

nullAfter kicking around handful of options at Warner Bros. including the drama "Your Voice In My Head," the thriller "The Imitation Game" and potential gangster epic "Cicero," 'Harry Potter' helmer David Yates has finally settled on "Tarzan" as his next project. The decision has slowly been coming over the past few months, but now it's time to find out who's going to shirtless and swinging from vines, and some interesting names are cropping up.

Vulture reports that "Man Of Steel" lead Henry Cavill, "Sons Of Anarcy" star Charlie Hunnam and "True Blood" fang banger Alexander Skarsgard are meeting Yates to discuss the lead, with eternal badass Tom Hardy is also being eyed by the studio. You might recall that Hardy and Yates were set to pair up on the aforementioned "Cicero," with the actor playing Al Capone over a proposed trilogy of films. Whether or not he finds his particular vehicle more enticing remains to be seen.

All the names are familiar faces around the WB lot. Cavill and Hardy, because, obviously. Hunnam features in next summer's "Pacific Rim" and Skarsgard has that Viking movie "The Vanguard" developing at the studio, but clearly execs like working with these guys and/or have been impressed with what they've done.

So we'll see how it all plays out. We have to say, a new "Tarzan" movie doesn't exactly thrill us, but seeing that Yates was able to manage making Harry Potter grow up and take the series successfull in a darker direction, we'll be curious to see how he handles this.

  1. Although i do like many of the actors mentioned here i think that Chris Hemsworth best fits the bill for the role of Tarzan. The tarzan books are my favorites and i hope that if a movie is made they will stay true to the original story that Edgar rice Burreoughs wrote.

  2. I don't think any of the actors mentioned above are fit to play the Tarzan role. The Tarzan actor has to stand 6 feet 4 inches (give or take an inch), be broad shouldered with a muscular build like an athlete. He should have strong, rugged masculine facial features and long black hair not quite shoulder length. I wonder why Joe Manganiello of the HBO series True Blood hasn't been considered.

  3. No on this one for Henry Cavill. I wouldn't want him to get type cast. First Immortals, then Superman, now possibly Tarzan…no! I think he needs something where he can show case his considerable talents.(beyond his gorgeous looks and beautiful body) I think it would be a bad career move to do 50 Shades also.

  4. if it's Cavill, the movie would be the closest thing to the 1930s adaptations. Nice, I can laugh my ass off while watching that sleek hair as Tarzan. I need that.

  5. I love Henry Cavill therefore I think he's too good for this role! Tarzan…again….really? Not to mention I'm really hoping for him to play Christian Grey so this nonsense could get in the way, lmao. Anyway, regardless of my thoughts on a new Tarzan movie, I think Charlie Hunnam would be best for this role out of the actors named. I love Alexander Skarsgard too, but I'm not sure if I can picture him as Tarzan…hmm.

  6. Tom Hardy as Tarzan? Hmmn…. nope. Hardy is an A-list actor and wouldn't be caught dead swinging from a vine in a loin cloth. Apart from that, picturing Tarzan with undiluted swagger, covered in awesome tattoos, and tossing monkeys around in the jungle while yelling in a deep husky voice, does bring a smile to my face.

  7. Seriously, WHO cares? Every Tarzan film MADE in the LAST 50 years has SUCKED! It's a 19th Century fantasy, from an EARLY 20th Century book that wasn't all that well written! It's BORING, and too weird for words, which is probably WHY none of the films made since Buster Crabbe's days have been worth watching. You can PUT lipstick on a PIG, but it just makes the PIG uglier! It kind of EMPHASIZES how UGLY the PIG really is!

  8. The Al Capone film Cicero is still very much being worked on, but the script needs to be perfect and Hardy is learning Italian for the role. David Yates told Collider.com a few months ago that it's probably going to be his next film after his first post-Potter gig.

  9. Hardy, known for his Method dedication to his roles would surely spend at least a month in the jungle preparing for a role as Tarzan and that we kinda need to see.

  10. Aren't they all a bit too old for Tarzan and already linked to other (possible) franchises?
Only actor I can think of for live action Tarzan is Brendan Fraser in his George of the Jungle days.
Liam Hemsworth has right look and physique but I didn't see any of his movies. Can he act?
