Got a Tip?

‘Batgirl’: Leslie Grace Teases Early Discussions About Sequel

While the future of other Bat-Family members like Robin and Nightwing on the big screen is up in the air, the DCEU will see Leslie Grace play Barbara Gordon in “Batgirl,” starring alongside J.K. Simmons‘ Commissioner Jim Gordon from “Justice League” and Michael Keaton‘s incarnation of Bruce Wayne. Keaton is reprising the role made famous in the two Tim Burton films, seemingly becoming the main version of Batman in this corner of the DC Comics franchise. It looks like even before the film releases on HBO Max, another installment might be on the horizon.

Variety was able to speak with Grace on the upcoming DC film that had been shooting in the United Kingdom and she mentioned “some talks” about the potential sequel are underway.

“We got to see this first one first. But there’s definitely some talks about what it could be,” Grace teased.

The actress added what to expect in the superhero movie, saying “I’ve seen some of what we’ve shot, obviously in the playback and stuff like that, and it’s insane. We’ve already been talking about where do we take this from here because there’s so much that happens in this film. There are a lot of different themes in the plot that we touch on. It’s not just the action. There’s a love story. There’s this father-daughter relationship. There’s looking at the world through a lens that isn’t just black and white and seeing the color and the spectrum between things.”

Warners actively giving audiences two versions of Batman at the same time with Robert Pattinson and Keaton, also with Grace taking up Wayne’s mantle as the Gotham vigilante, is going to be an interesting experiment. Then again, we’ve had multiple versions of Joker in such a short period of time and it hasn’t caused too much confusion with the general public.

Speaking of the studio, news broke yesterday that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is said to be setting his sights on the DC Comics franchises and hoping to overhaul DC Entertainment, potentially hiring a “czar” to oversee the multiple films/television projects in the works for quality control. It remains to be seen what this new development means for properties like “Batgirl” and if they’ll pivot resources towards more traditional heroes in their library.
