HBO Unveils First Footage From Upcoming ‘Deadwood’ Movie, ‘Watchmen’ Series, & More In An Epic Promo

For years, “Deadwood” fans have been praying that HBO would one day let showrunner David Milch (“NYPD Blue” “Luck”) wrap up the canceled series with (what was initially pitched) as a two-film capper. Finally, foul-mouthed saloon keeper, Al Swearengen (Ian McShane) and idealistic lawman, Seth Bullock (Timothy Olyphant) will grace the screens of Home Box Office subscribers, again, later this year; but that isn’t the only exciting thing HBO has on the horizon.

In addition to revealing new footage from the final seasons of two seminal series, “Game of Thrones” and “Veep”, the content provider is unleashing a huge catalog of new programming, slated for 2019. The ‘coming this year’ promo knows it’s playing catch up to Netflix and the dethroned king of prestige television seems primed for the inevitable upcoming battle of the brands. HBO has so many new things on the horizon, if you blink during the ad you might literally miss a few. There is one title that most TV fans won’t miss though: “Watchmen.

Damon Lindelof’s (“Lost”, “The Leftovers”) new series, based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon’s landmark comic book series – previously adapted for the big screen by Zack Snyder (“Justice League”) – has been in development for some time, and the always secretive, mystery box writer has, at last, let some visual secrets out of the bag. Glimpses of Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons (“The Lion King”) and – newly-crowned Academy Award winner – Regina King (“If Beale Street Could Talk”) are teased in the new promo. Many fans of the source material are against the adaptation. However, Lindelof penned an extremely heartfelt letter last year, asking fans to give his remix a chance before writing it off.

On top of promoting the network’s most buzzed about brand content (“Big Little Lies”), the dense trailer is laced with footage of more than 20 new upcoming seasons, including new series; “Euphoria,” “The Righteous Gemstones,” “Mrs. Fletcher,” “His Dark Materials” and more. You can find a list of all the projects HBO plans to release in 2019 below.

The promo aired on HBO before tonight’s season finale of “True Detective.
