Finally grown tired of hapless, often ridiculously idiotic film roles, former great Robert DeNiro is collaborating again with his longtime director Marty Scorsese. “His next project with Scorsese, which he declined to detail, is one on which he’s already working and should be ready by 2009, ” Variety wrote with no further details.
Could this be a return to form for the aging leading man who has been going the way of Marlon Brandon and appearing in dreadfully lackluster films at an alarming rate of late?
Or is it just going to be a another sub-par movie from DeNiro, seeimgly like his new film, “What Just Happened,” which has already received a lukewarm reception? Since he declined to discuss the details of the film in a recent interview citing that he felt “superstitious about talking about it”, it is tough to get any kind of read on the movie, but could it be a dream project he doesn’t want to jinx? On the optimistic side, Marty is in charge, and unlike other greats (DeNiro, Pacino) he has been able to evolve as an artist, and continues to keep making quality films. Let’s bow our heads and pray.
