Got a Tip?

‘Harry Potter’ Star Tom Felton Joins ‘Therese Raquin’ With Elizabeth Olsen & Glenn Close

nullIt's already got the makings of a great infographic: "What the stars of Harry Potter did next." With each of the (now not so young) stars of the franchise making their first steps of their post-Potter careers, it's going to be very interesting to see which of them manage to carve out a successful route for themselves and which we'll have completely forgotten about in ten years.

Tom Felton will hope that he'll fall into the former category rather than the latter, and he got off to a very good start by starring in the excellent Rise of the Monkeys, sorry, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" last summer. Deadline reports that Felton is now in negotiations to add Charlie Stratton's directorial debut "Therese Raquin" to his list of upcoming projects. Felton would be joining a cast headed by the recently Oscar-nominated Glenn Close and the recently Oscar-snubbed Elizabeth Olsen, in an adaptation of the novel and play by Emilie Zola. The story is as old as time. Trapped in a loveless marriage, a young woman enters a passionate affair with her husband's best friend, with events leading to a tragic outcome.

The story was adapted into a mini-series in 1980 by the BBC and starred Brian Cox, so perhaps Felton had the project recommended to him by his ROTPOTA co-star. Felton will play the husband of Olsen's character Therese, who she kills alongside her lover Laurent, but they are later haunted by his ghost. A ghostly Malfoy? Color us excited then.

  1. Wow! Therese Requin is an amazing play. Can't wait to see it. Tom Felton should be awesome in it. He's got a brilliant talent that needs more credit than its getting. Go Tom Felton!

  2. I was looking forward to this about 4 years ago when Gerard Butler was attached as Laurent. It didn't get off the ground, obviously, but oddly enough Glenn Close has been with the project since then.
