Remember a time when the world wasn’t so crazy? You could walk into a deli, with no facial covering whatsoever, and order a sandwich from someone without having to stand six feet away from them. It was a simpler time. It was a time when Paul Thomas Anderson would release a new Haim music video every few months without fail, continuing his job as the personal videographer for the family band. Well, thankfully, half of that scenario still exists.
As seen in the new video for “Man from the Magazine,” Anderson is once again back to direct a Haim music video. However, unlike the somewhat flashier recent offerings from the director and band, ‘Magazine’ is very subdued. No elaborate sets. No costume changes. No choreographed dance numbers. This is simply Danielle Haim singing the song to two men who order sandwiches from her at a deli. It’s as simple as that.
The Haim connections don’t just end there. Alana Haim has a role in Anderson’s currently untitled, possibly-titled “Soggy Bottom” film set in 1970s Los Angeles and centered around a high school student who becomes a famous child actor portrayed by Cooper Hoffman, the son of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. Not that much is known about the film, but Bradley Cooper and Benny Safdie co-star and it has been suggested that the movie is a Robert Altman-esque sprawl ala “Magnolia” that touches upon many characters and stories.
Anyhow, PTA continues to be Haim’s director of choice and will presumably do so until further notice. Watch the video for “Man From The Magazine” below.
