So just how mega big is “Iron Man 3” going to be? Well, if early projections are accurate, it’s going to be a monster, with predictions of a $160 million weekend now being tossed around. That would not only make it the biggest opener of the franchise so far, but one of the year’s biggest movies as well. So you might think it would be a no brainer for Marvel to greenlight a fourth installment. Guess again?
Speaking with GeekNation, the Most Beautiful Woman In The World AKA Gwyneth Paltrow made today an ugly one for geeks hoping for the continued adventures of Tony Stark. “I don’t think there’s going to be [an ‘Iron Man 4‘]. I think we’re done with ‘Iron Man,’ ” she stated. And while we’ll have to wait and see what Kevin Feige and co. decide, there are a couple reasons why this could be true.
Firstly, Robert Downey Jr. has already started talking about walking away from the series, and from Marvel’s perspective, he’s also very expensive to keep on board. A backend profit deal on “The Avengers” saw RDJ pocket $50 million, and we presume he probably has a similar deal in place for “Iron Man 3.” Moreover, his contract is up (along with Paltrow’s) and renewing him is going to be a lot more costly than it was when Marvel signed the actor, who was barely on the Hollywood radar before “Iron Man” revitalized his career. Moreover, maybe as Marvel heads into Phase Three they’ll want to shift focus to even more characters, including Daredevil, the rights to which are now back in their hands.
So we’ll let fans speculate on what this means for the fate of Pepper Potts and other characters in the series, but could Don Cheadle and his War Machine take over where Tony Stark leaves off? We’ll see. “Iron Man 3” opens on May 3rd. [via Bleeding Cool]
JUST SAW IRONMAN 3, IT WAS BLOODY AMAZING, but sadly At the end he made it pretty clear that iron man 3 is the last one
I just saw ironman 3 and let me just say, the way the movie ends there it little left to the imagination in regards to there being a 4th movie. His house is gone, all the gadgets are given away to his little kid sidekick(which was an annoying little bit) and at the very end Tony stares off the cliff stand on the rubble of the foundations of his house and throw off his little chest light thing off the cliff after he get's surgery to remove the rest of the shrapnel and he claims "I am Ironman"….They make it pretty clear that this is the end of the series. That being said, I didn't think the movie was very good. They tried to take almost the same approach "Skyfall" did by trying to de-gadgetize a good portion of the movie…it just didn't work as well as it did for Bond in my opinion. That being said, it's an "event" movie the type that's full of special effects and thus looks great on a big screen.

There could be limitless 'Iron Man' films, but it would be really cool of Marvel and RDJ to leave it at three, with sporadic appearances in 'The Avengers' films. 'Iron Man 3' is arguably (and – by that – I mean I argue) the best of the 'Iron Man' films (and the Marvel Studio films), and it lends itself nicely as the capper of a trilogy, given that the arc reflects Tony's origin story, references the first film, and leaves Tony at a more fulfilled moment in his life. Whilst 'Iron Man 2' ended with the profound insight that, hey, Shandling is kinda a jerk, this film deals with who he is and why he is who he is (i.e. Iron Man). It would also be cool if Downey returns to more fulfilling work instead of parlaying his 'Iron Man' success to play, essentially, the same character (passive-aggressive, obsessive asshole) in the Marvel or Sherlock Holmes films.
Too bad, no more Iron Man. Oh well.
