MTV brings us our first look at what everyone presumes is the hero’s costume in the upcoming blockbuster “Green Lantern.” The photo confirms what we’ve heard so far, that there will be no physical uniform for Ryan Reynolds to wear, and the entire thing will be completely CGI. We read the script awhile back, and while the suit emerges in a fluid pattern similar to the symbiote in “Spider-Man 3,” continuity has always depicted the outfit as the standard superhero spandex. We’ll guess that using a motion-capture approach to the wardrobe prevents any pre-production photo leaks, but other than the five GL superfans, would anyone really get excited if they re-created the extremely easy-to-reproduce suit from the source material?
Note, that since Ryan Reynolds’ Hal Jordan character is a fighter pilot, this could be a motion-capture suit for a flight sequence, as the script has many of those. It makes sense given that the shot looks like it’s close to an airport hangar, and Reynolds has ’80s Val Kilmer hair with douchebag preppie villain aviator shades. See, we can make fun of Ryan Reynolds because he’s married to Scarlett Johansson, made a few million in the stock market in the ’90s, and looks like Ryan Reynolds. Boo, Ryan Reynolds.
“Green Lantern” stars Reynolds, Blake Lively, Mark Strong, Peter Sarsgaard, Tim Robbins and a fancy set of pajamas, and it hits theaters June 17th, 2011.
