Warner’s Brothers has set a release date for “The Green Lantern,” its super-hero flick with director Martin Campell (“Casino Royale”) [Note: This is “The Green Lantern” not “The Green Hornet” project which Michel Gondry is rumored to be behind]. It is set to be released December 17th, 2010.
Richard Kelly’s neo-thriller “The Box” has been pushed back once again, this time to November 25th, 2009, after being stuck in limbo for nearly two years, perhaps the idea of going against the apparently problem-free, “The Wolf Man,” was too much. Marc Webb’s twee indie-flick, which stars stars Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, has been moved up from its July 24th release date to a July 17th release date. Guy Ritchie’s “Sherlock Holmes” adaptation, despite rumors of re-shoots and unsatisfied studio execs, is catching a huge promotion, moving from a November to a Christmas day release.
The bump for “The Box” is sadly turning into business as usual, as it was originally supposed to be released last September, then this March but now lies far off in November. It’s interesting to note that with the move of “500 Days of Summer” to July 17th, Fox Searchlight has moved the film right into the latest installment of the “Harry Potter” series. The move doesn’t seem to make much sense, although it’s not likely that the films will have many overlapping fans, and maybe they are just hoping that some “Harry Potter” fans, in their blind frenzy end up in the wrong theater and sit through ‘500 Days.’
With Sherlock Holmes getting the vote of confidence from Warner’s, it appears that the rumors of studio being dissatisfied were unfounded.
